NEW MADRID, Mo. — A new rail spur will put a new industry on track for construction. At the Dec. 4 meeting of the New Madrid City Council approval was given for Mayor Kevin Lyons to sign an agreement to improve and develop public infrastructure to support Upcycled New Madrid and a second agreement with the Missouri Department of Economic Development. I am confused at the politicians saying we need more job growth. After taking three years of economics in college, I was taught that the economy will always have an unemployment rate of close to 4% or a little less. This is because some people are handicapped and can’t work, and others that just refuse to work period. The current unemployment rate is 3.7%. These same politicians are against new immigration. How can we have more job growth without bringing more people to the United States to fill the new jobs? We can’t have it both ways.
