Dowdy's Dugout Discussions
Brian Dowdy has been a Cardinal fan all of his life. Born and raised in Dexter, Brian attended his first game in 1982 and was hooked. He has seen the Cardinals play too many times to count and watched the Cardinals play in Miami, Chicago, Houston, Cleveland and Kansas City and the list is growing.

DH in the National League?
Posted Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at 11:56 AMFirst off I am not one to say "I told you so" or "Look I said that" or even "They must have read my blog" ... ok I did say the last one. But if you were one of the several insomniacs that have read a few of my past blogs, thank you by the way, then you have heard my ramblings about how Matt Carpenter would be the perfect number two hitter in the lineup. ... -
Lineup questions
Posted Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at 10:02 AMThe Cardinals' offense seems to be waking up and getting in the swing of things. I even had one Cincinnati fan on Saturday tell me that our "lineup is stacked" and I have to agree with that. One question is will manager Mike Matheny stay with the same lineup or will he want to tinker with it like he said he would do in spring training but never did. ... -
Baseball season is finally here
Posted Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at 9:49 AMAfter a long off season, a short spring training and quick work of the Cubs last night we can finally be excited that baseball is back. This past offseason the Cards were able to take care of a couple of needs when they traded with the Braves for Jason Heyward and Jordan Walden. ... -
Second half swoon or start of a rise?
Posted Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at 6:57 AMI was able to travel to Baltimore to watch the battle of the birds. Unfortunately the Orioles were stronger than than the Cardinals this time and it seemed like everyone in the Orioles lineup hit a home run including the bat boy. It was a fun trip nonetheless to be able to see a new city and a new ballpark... -
Cardinals trade deadline aftermath
Posted Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at 2:24 PMThe trade deadline for this year has come and gone along with some of Cardinal Nation fan favorites. Did John Mozeliak give up too much? Did Mozeliak make the right moves or were they just to stir the pot to make something happen? Maybe he gambled to force Mike Matheny's hand to play Oscar Taveras. Does he know something about the players that others don't?... -
Cardinals season in jeopardy?
Posted Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at 10:01 AMNot sure what has been more troublesome so far this year, the lack of offense, the fastball control of Trevor Rosenthal, or having to listen to Dan McLaughlin and Tim McCarver pat each other on the back. With all the lows the club has faced so far this year, losing Yadier Molina for probably the rest of the season will not be easy to overcome. In fact some will say that the season is lost so we should start planning for next year... -
Bullpen Blues
Posted Friday, May 23, 2014, at 11:09 AMThe same ole story of the year continued on Wednesday night in an extra inning victory. As the saying goes winning is winning, however so far this year we have had our share of not enough ups and way too many downs. With the sweep of the Diamondbacks are we beginning our run to the top of the division?... -
Cardinals' struggles are on display
Posted Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at 9:58 AMIf you haven't heard, we got whipped by the Cubs last night. I even watched the replay last night and we still lost that bad. We lost 17-5 and allowed 17 runs for the first time since 2010. So after a loss like that where do we look to start putting the pieces back together?... -
Season woes continue
Posted Monday, May 5, 2014, at 2:52 PMI have been watching, as I am sure you have, the troubles and struggles with the Cards so far. It is easy to point fingers when we aren't playing well and we are all probably guilty (myself for sure) of over thinking and questioning the moves made or not made. Is it only me or have you wondered when the National League champions will show up and start being more consistent?... -
Spring Training and Ballpark Village Experience
Posted Monday, April 14, 2014, at 8:11 AMLet me begin with saying the St Louis Cardinals know how to treat the fans and both experiences I will discuss are first class in my opinion. Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Fla., and the newly open Ballpark Village in St Louis have lots to offer fans that are obsessed with the Cardinals, like me, or even the casual fan that roots for the Cards... -
Spring Training Wrap Up - The Young Guns
Posted Friday, March 28, 2014, at 8:53 AMSpring training is finally over and the players are anxious to get the season started so the stats will start counting. Now we look back and are left to answer a few questions; who will be healthy first Jaime Garcia or Jason Motte, who will be the last pitcher to fill out the bullpen and do we have to come back to Missouri?... -
Spring Training Wrapup -- The Hit Club
Posted Monday, March 24, 2014, at 9:41 AMHello from hot inside and outside Jupiter Florida! I would like to begin this blog by issuing an apology to those who had to listen to the phone interview I did with the cool dudes from "The Last Word". If you have no idea what I am talking about ... feel lucky. I practiced what I thought I wanted to say the night before, however as the phone call comes in, I go blank. Not to mention I sounded nervous and I was... -
Kids looking good in Florida
Posted Monday, March 10, 2014, at 12:48 PMAs spring training continues to move toward the regular season there will be a few of the "up and coming" players that will be referred to as "needs more seasoning" by the end of spring. It is still early though and still a few days for the players trying to make a name for themselves to show what they have and hopefully turn some heads. ... -
Spring has Sprung ... Finally
Posted Monday, March 3, 2014, at 10:47 AMI don't know about you all, but I am loving this weather right now!! Oh wait, sorry I am in Jupiter Fla., the Spring Training home of our Cardinals. I have fallen behind once again on my blogs and I have recently realized I never finished my New Year New Pieces article. I will throw in my two cents about the infield competition and who I think has the edge (if any)... -
New Year New Pieces Part 2
Posted Monday, January 13, 2014, at 6:31 AMLast week I talked about the trade of David Freese and the impact it will have without his bat and glove and injuries. However, the other side of this trade is the players received in return from the Angels for Freese and Fernando Salas. The Cardinals acquired Peter Bourjos, 26 year old outfielder and Randal Grichuk, 22-year-old minor league outfielder... -
New Year New Pieces Part 1
Posted Monday, January 6, 2014, at 1:41 PMAfter a long silence, I am way behind and owe it to you the great St Louis Cardinal fans a new blog with some new team players and concerns. Did you like all the moves or lack of moves? Do you think trading David Freese was a good idea or bad idea? This week I will discuss my opinion on Mr. Freese... -
World Series blues
Posted Thursday, November 7, 2013, at 3:37 PMFirst I would like to say that, in my opinion, 2013 was a successful year and we have much to be proud of as Cardinal fans. To have weathered the injuries we had to face and having to put rookies, who did a fantastic job in tough situations, I think is very impressive to have been that close to winning the World Series... -
World Series bound!
Posted Monday, October 21, 2013, at 2:13 PMI love St Louis Cardinal playoff baseball, especially in person. I was fortunate to be in the bleachers on Friday night during the Game 6 victory over the Dodgers and let me sum it up in one simple word ... Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!! The atmosphere both inside and outside Busch Stadium before, during and after is intense and fun -- just electric. ... -
Was Lynn the right choice?
Posted Saturday, October 5, 2013, at 1:00 AMIn Game 1 of the NLDS the Cardinals went with their ace Adam Wainwright and he did what aces do, dominate. With a chance to take a two-game lead in a best-of-five series was Lance Lynn the best choice to start Friday? Considering Lynn's struggles in last year's playoffs I will say the answer is no and should have been in the bullpen... -
Playoff time in St. Louis
Posted Thursday, October 3, 2013, at 6:13 AMI am certain that most of you reading this has either been to or at least watched a playoff game on TV. It is an awesome experience with a sea of red all around Busch Stadium outside the stadium before, during and after the game. Inside the stadium is a unique experience because you stand through most of the game and wearing red is not only encouraged it is mandatory. Anything red goes and the more you wear the more you look "normal"...
