Caruthersville rolls past NMCC in district tune up

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- The Caruthersville Tigers racked up 616 yards en route to a 76-13 win over visiting New Madrid County Central Friday night.

Caruthersville raced out to a 35-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to three touchdown passes from quarterback Charles Golliday to go along with a 46-yard touchdown scamper to start the scoring.

Golliday hit Terrance Rasberry for a 12-yard pass and then hit George Qualls on a 40-yard and 60-yard strikes. Sandwiched between the two passes to Qualls was a 75-yard touchdown run from tailback Deandre Davis.

Davis then opened the second quarter with a 97-yard run, giving the Tigers a 42-0 lead. Davis finished the game with 193 yards on just four carries for a whopping 48.3 yards per carry.

NMCC got on the board in the second quarter when JaMonte Sykes caught a 27-yard pass from quarterback Brock Blakey.

The excitement for the Eagles was short-lived however, as Qualls returned the ensuing kickoff 77 yards for a score.

Lamonte Bell then scored on a 35-yard carry for Caruthersville, followed by a 54-yard run as the senior gained 100 yards on 10 carries. Golliday then scored on a 21-yard run with 5:47 remaining in the first half to give the Tigers a 70-6 lead that will stand until halftime.

Golliday finished the game with 88 yards on just three carries and completed 4 of 6 passes for 144 yards with three touchdowns.

Micah Rodgers added a 3-yard touchdown run for Caruthersville in the fourth quarter while Sykes returned the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for a score for the Eagles to round out the scoring.

Caruthersville (6-3) earned the second seed in Class 2, District 1 and will host winless Kelly Friday night in the first round of districts. NMCC (1-7) will be the eighth seed in Class 3, District 1 and will travel to Park Hills Central to take on the top seeded Rebels next Friday.
