Charleston downs Herculaneum for third win

Saturday, October 15, 2016

HERCULANEUM, Mo. -- The Charleston Bluejays ended their regular season on a high note Friday, going on the road and defeating Herculaneum 20-16 Friday night.

Charleston led 12-8 after the first quarter and the two teams played to a stalemate until early in the fourth quarter when Charleston quarterback Lee Thomas Moody hit Jeremy Tucker for a 20-yard touchdown pass. Moody then hit Tucker for a two-point conversion pass and the Bluejays held a 20-8 lead with 7:13 left in the game.

Herculaneum wasted no time, however, marching down the field and scoring when LJ Nelson caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Ethan Coy with just over four minutes left in the game. Coy ran in the two-point conversion and the Bluejays held a slim 20-16 lead.

The Blackcat defense then forced a three-and-out and Charleston was forced to punt. Herculaneum again began moving the ball but Charleston's Jakieth Browning picked off a Coy pass, his second of the half, and the Bluejays were able to run out the clock to earn the win.

With the win, Charleston improves to 3-6 on the season while Herculaneum falls to 3-6.
