JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- A Sikeston woman followed the suggestion of a convenience store clerk and purchased a Missouri Lottery "$1,000 Frenzy" Scratchers ticket. That advice led to a $100,000 win. Lauren Poole, 42, said the good suggestion paid off. "I have won $500 and $1,000 on other Scratchers tickets, but the clerk at the store talked me into spending a little more on the $10 '$1,000 Frenzy' ticket," she said. "That was some good advice."...

Proposed Charleston sales tax will benefit fire protection and law enforcement

CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Registered voters in Charleston will decide a sales tax issue that would benefit their fire protection and law enforcement when they go to the polls on Aug. 8. "To be viable as a community, Charleston needs to invest in its basic fire and police services," said Charleston City Manager Richard Goode. The Sikeston Parks and Recreation Department hosted the "Color the Trail" for youngsters on Monday. Next Monday from 9-10 a.m., children are invited to the Malone Park for another "Fun in the Parks" activity.
