Jesus said in John 11:11, "Lazarus has fallen asleep" (NASB). This statement teaches the disciples a new way to look on death. The term "sleep" euphemistically refers to death in the New Testament, particularly with reference to Christians. In the presence of the Lord, who is "the resurrection and the life" (John 11:25), what more could death be than mere sleep? What is death in the presence of Jesus?
