Can't wait to get on the road
(Column ~ 02/27/08)
Over the last week I have spent a lot of time driving while on my way to and from district basketball tournaments. While on the road I have learned that a person can learn a lot from driving. Yes, we all know that big rigs own the road and will come over into your lane whether there is room or not. And no matter how much I want to hold my ground, my little SUV is nothing more than a fly on the windshield to the idiot drivers...

Filing begins for county offices
(Local News ~ 02/27/08)
SIKESTON -- After only the first day of filing, a few races for county offices have already formed. In Scott County, all incumbents have already filed, according County Clerk Rita Milam. With political signs having been erected around the county last year, it should be no surprise to county residents that Bobby Sullivan has filed to run for sheriff. As both Sullivan and the incumbent, Rick Walter, have filed as Democrats, this race will be decided during the August primary...

'Dreamlike' work blossoms in gallery
(Local News ~ 02/27/08)
SIKESTON -- It was difficult for Depot Director Mike Marsh to come up with a word to describe the current exhibit, which includes work from Sikeston artist Barbi Myres. "The only word I can come up with is ethereal," said Marsh, who added he's never had that problem the one and a half years since named director -- or had such work on display. "It's not impressionistic, not modern, but very colorful and dreamlike."...

Speakout serves an important role
(Column ~ 02/27/08)
Long before there were bloggers, long before the Internet opened countless venues for public discussion, and long before there was easily accessible portals for venting and thought sharing, there was Speakout. (High School Sports ~ 02/27/08)
PORTAGEVILLE -- The last time the Portageville Bulldogs took on the Scott City Rams, the victory went to the Rams, by a score of 72-48. Plenty of good hoop action on Thursday
(High School Sports ~ 02/27/08)
After a few days of district basketball action, I have a few matchups that may be well worth your drive to check out before the week's end. These will be in no certain order, as each game has significance of it's own, and each one would be worth the four dollar admission into the gym...

As everyone probably knows, New Madrid has had a lot of controversy over the utility rate increase due to the need for utility upgrades.
