This past week I was back in Sikeston to see my mother, and a college friend from New Hampshire came to visit at the same time. It had been a while since she had been in Sikeston, so she was eager to see how the town has changed. As we drove around, she had nothing but "Oohs" and "Aahs" when she saw all of the new businesses that have come to Sikeston, as well as the many new houses that are being built. She even noticed how smooth Wakefield is now that the street has been resurfaced...

Call me naive, or too pro-veteran, but it seems to me we should be thanking every Purple Heart recipient for their duty to country, not demanding of them explanations for why their wounds weren't bigger or fatal. Only somebody craven - or with a political agenda - could stoop so low. Ridicule Kerry on his liberal Senate record, or even his outspoken Vietnam Vets Against the War protests, but leave his old battle scars alone...
