Speakout 10-28
(Opinion ~ 10/29/01)
I was calling in response to the "Growing list" that was in the paper. If the NAACP and Black Panthers are put on the terrorist list, the KKK and the Skinheads should be put on there as well. It's a shame that some white Americans feel that a statement like that is appropriate in our country's time of tragedy while we should be coming together as a nation instead of trying to keep us racially divided. It's a shame...

SPEAKOUT
(Opinion ~ 10/29/01)
I saw an ad in a newspaper that said to shop in Mississippi County and keep the money at home. Shop where? Since Wal-Mart in Charleston closed, where do you have to shop in Mississippi County? I haven't seen any men's clothing store? What about a shoe store? Everybody likes going to a discount store, so unless you get some business in town, they have to go out of town to shop. And that's sad...

(Local News ~ 10/29/01)
SIKESTON - The little magician smiled and talked to his audience about the upcoming illusion he would create "right before their eyes." With a slight movement of his hands, the dollar disappeared. It's magic! But the real magic is the manipulative skill the youngster has developed. For you see this pint-sized magician is one of the children receiving therapy at the Kenny Rogers Children's Center...

Government is not cure to all problems
(Column ~ 10/29/01)
You don't have to look very far sometimes to see a dumb idea. State Rep. John Bowman of St. Louis takes the cake this week with his proposal to create a new state Department of Urban Conservation. Bowman thinks by creating yet another level of state government bureaucracy that more attention would be drawn to the problems of the inner city and more creative ways to address those problems would surface...

Your View
(Letter to the Editor ~ 10/29/01)
I come from a time when common sense prevailed, which seems to be lacking in our under-experienced but highly educated society, and being politically correct had not been invented. My common sense tells me our American school children should not send their dollars to President Bush to give to Afghanistan's children. ...
